To field Krish Srikkanth, the former Indian cricket team captain, to open the #SHRMUnconference was a killer of an idea by SHRM India..kudos Shiv and Surajit. I loved every bit of his blockbuster of a speech that was unfiltered, no bs, 100% delivered - the "Cheeka style". Like his batting, from the moment go..it was a pinch-hitting sort of speech, rich in anecdotes filled with analogies from the field and off the field for leaders who were in the audience. 3 ideas stood out for me.. 1. If one has to be selected among the 25-30 players representing India from a population of 1.4 billion, then there is no use of being ordinary - someone who plays his/her natural game and has that x-factor will be naturally preferred. 2. Communicate well with all the stakeholders. If one has to be dropped, communicate well in advance why they are getting dropped and what needs to be done to get back. 3. If one has the desire, conviction, and works towards that goal, it is bound to happen no matter what. Cheeka, when he was down and out in his leanest phase in 1984, had the desire to captain the Indian men's team. And it manifested in 1989. Sachin made his debut for India under his captaincy! It proved to be a "blockbuster opening" for the #BlockbusterOfWork SHRM Unconference.
