🛡️Today we’re talking about the 180° rule with our favorite one eyed warrior, Nick Fury, Director of Shield, in these drawings by @wahabalg.🛡️ Simply put, the 180° rule asks you to pick a side to film from and stick to that side for the entirety of a scene. Of course there are times to break the rule, but for the most part, that’s basically it. In our example, the first image shows a top view layout of where Nick is standing, how he’s posed, and where the cameras are in relation to him. On the ground, we see the dreaded 180 line that we shouldn’t cross. The first 3 cameras🎥 are on the same side of the scene, favoring Nick’s left side / eye patch side, while camera 4 🎥 breaks onto the other side of the 180 line, favoring Nick’s right eye.👁️ Cutting from shot to shot, the flow of the scene remains intact as Nick chews out🗯️ someone off screen (probably Iron Man). But as soon as we cut to that final shot, it throws the flow off, almost making it appear as if Nick is arguing with himself. Of course, arguing with a character’s inner demons could be a valid way to break the 180° rule, like the classic LOTR The Two Towers scene where Smeagol and his alter ego, Gollum, argue over the fate of the one ring 💍and their travel companions. Keeping your scene simple and clear keeps the 180° rule easy to understand. As long as we stay on Nick’s eye patch side, we’re doing great in regards to the 180° rule. Don’t be intimidated by this helpful rule as you… #boardon #stba #storyboardart #storyboarding #storyboards #visualstorytelling #artadvice #arttips #drawingadvice #drawingtips #art #oneeightyrule #storyboardingclasses #storyboardingcourses #storyboardcourse #storycourse #storyclasses #storyboardclass #courses #editing #storytips #animation #film #photoshoptips #photoshop #freecourse #freeworkshop #discord #filmmaker #drawing
