Earlier today, SEI joined partners at Hamburg Sustainability Conference for a high-level roundtable on what comes next for global sustainability – and what should follow the SDGs after 2030. "Beyond 2030: forging alliances for the future of global sustainability" brought policymakers, researchers and civil society together around a sharpening question: with the 2030 Agenda's deadline in sight and the SDG Summit due in September 2027, which narratives and partnerships can carry an ambitious sustainability agenda forward – and how do we put Global South perspectives at its centre? SEI co-created the session with German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS), Southern Voice and Monash University, drawing on IDOS's mapping of country positions, a Southern Voice survey on the beyond-2030 framework, and a series of regional roundtables across Africa, Asia and Latin America SEI's Nina Weitz organized the discussion, and SEI Executive Director Eeva Primmer gave the concluding reflections alongside Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ). Appreciating the very committed discussion, Eeva reflects on the session: "At a time when reasoned debate as a basis for decision-making seems in short supply, we need to harness good dialogue and collaboration. For SEI, honest consideration of the facts goes hand in hand with listening and co-learning with our partners – connecting science, policy and practice for sustainable development. The insecure world we live in needs a framework to offer shared direction. To keep the direction, we need to learn from the past, across sectors, countries and regions. Combining such a knowledge-base with inclusive processes and strategic dialogues building on the inspiring discussions like ours in Hamburg, we will be able to support the sustainable development agenda beyond 2030." Thanks to our co-hosts and fellow travellers for a thoughtful exchange. #HSC2026 #2030Agenda #SDGs #SustainableDevelopment
