In 1964, world-renowned architect Kenzo Tange designed the Kagawa Prefectural Gymnasium—a breathtaking fusion of tradition and modernism, affectionately known as “the Boat Gym.” A citizen-led initiative has proposed a complete preservation and adaptive reuse plan—fully funded by private sources, with no cost to the public. The gymnasium would be reborn as a cultural hub and international destination, celebrating Tange’s legacy in the very prefecture where it began.
