Projections in the Philippines reveal that municipal landfills could be overflowing within the next 20 years. The urgent need for innovation prompted Ayala Land, Inc. (ALI) to act, launching the Plastic to Pavers project in 2019. Noted by Anna Maria M. Gonzales, Head of Corporate Sustainability, and John Estacio, Senior Estate Development Head and Sustainability Lead, plastics from ALI properties are turned into sustainable construction materials called Eco Pavers. These Eco Pavers are used in ALI’s large-scale construction projects, resulting in almost 500 tonnes of plastic being recycled just between 2022-2023. Despite their already significant impact, Ayala Land is aiming to reduce landfill waste significantly across all its properties and incorporate more recycled materials into their future construction projects.
