BMW Motorrad has enjoyed nearly 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ years of success in motorsports. Let us present you another MILESTONE in this long history. Today: the BMW riders’ dominance in the 500 cc class of the German Motorcycle Championship in the post-war period. From 1947 to 1962, they celebrated no less than 14 title wins. Georg Meier, who already had caused a stir with BMW on the Isle of Man and was crowned German Champion before the war in 1938, claimed another 500 cc class five title wins in these years: from 1947 to 1910 and in 1953. The picture shows Meier in 1947. Ernst Hiller was crowned German Champion on four occasions (1957 to 1959 and 1962). Walter Zeller won three titles in 1951, 1954 and 1955. The golden era was completed by the championship titles won by Ernst Riedelbauch (1956) and Hans-Günter Jäger (1961). Picture: BMW Group Archiv / Photographer: Kurt Wörner
