Bridging Ideation and Implementation: The Role of Capital and Market Dynamics Really grateful to former student Yianni Apostolo and his colleague Siya Patel for coming into my D'Amore-McKim School of Business at Northeastern University Innovation classes today and bringing real-world insight you just cannot replicate in a lecture. We kicked things off with the Huntington Angels Network (HAN), where students got a behind-the-scenes look at how startups are actually evaluated and funded. They broke down due diligence in a way that made it real, how to assess risk, spot opportunity, and think like an investor. What stood out most is that HAN is not theoretical. Students are working with real ventures, engaging with founders, and building relationships with actual investors. It gives them a front row seat to how capital really moves through the innovation ecosystem and what it takes to get an idea funded. Then we heard from the Northeastern Business of Entertainment Club (BOE), which opened students’ eyes to the business engine behind the creative industries. They showed that areas like film marketing, product strategy, and artist branding are not just add-ons; they determine whether a creative idea succeeds or fails. It was a great reminder that in entertainment, creativity gets attention, but strategy and execution build careers and companies. What I love about having both groups in the classroom is how clearly they reinforce a core idea we talk about all semester. Innovation is not just about coming up with ideas. It is about what happens after. It is about understanding how ideas get funded, how they are positioned, and how they are brought to market in the real world. HAN shows students how ideas get funded. BOE shows them how ideas get built into something people actually buy, watch, and engage with. Put those together, and students start to see innovation for what it really is, not just creativity, but execution, capital, and impact. Thank you, Yianni and Siya! #Innovation #Entrepreneurship #DesignThinking #VentureCapital #Fundraising #DueDiligence #StudentInnovation #ExperientialLearning #EntertainmentIndustry #StartupEcosystem #NortheasternUniversity #FutureOfWork #DMSB #HuntingtonAngelsNetwork #HAN #BusinessOfEntertainment #BOE #MediaBusiness #EntertainmentIndustry #FilmMarketing
