"When we knew Mick Ronson was going to join us, we all thought this was going to be amazing. On paper it was the best thing that could happen. But it didn’t happen. We never seemed to have a conversation with him. He didn’t seem to want to talk. I don’t know if he was shy or what. With Mott we were very down to earth, I ate beans on toast. But I’d go to Mick Ronson’s flat and there were 50 hangers-on with green hair and make-up, mixing Banana Daquiris in the kitchen. It was weird, and quite decadent, and I didn’t feel at ease at all."
