AI might kill off a ton of coder jobs. But it will also make an old business model work again. On a call last week with Philipp Dunkel, he pointed this out. "...what if we returned to small town corner store developers?" For the last 20 years, we have been on a headlong drive to adapt and integrate Saas into our business processes. AI is changing the economics. I remember a day when I had a meaningfull relationships with my community/startup banker. My last startup had this with Rob Hughes when he was with First Republic. Before moving to First Republic, I dreaded calling my local bank's support line. When Philip shared this question, my first thought was how important it is to have local and accessible people to work with. Saas feels like the opposite of this. It feels like a one-size-fits-all approach to software. What if the economics changed enough that small bespoke dev shops that deploy business software became profitable again?
