This past weekend I attended PCA33 by ProductCamp Austin, my first ever “un-conference” and there was so much to take away from it. I didn’t know quite what to expect, but I left feeling energized, inspired, and with a deeper understanding of the product space — especially the evolving relationship between product, design, and AI. Here are some standout sessions and what I took away: 🧠 When the Product Is You — How to Polish Your Presence to Stand Out in a Noisy Market by Lisa Bounds, MBA and Ellen Cox This session was a grounding reminder that authenticity and purpose matter, both online and in real life. I walked away reflecting on my own goals for the next 6 months and how to better define my unique point of view. Lisa and Ellen reminded us to connect with people, not just profiles, and to show up consistently with intention. Also? Don’t use AI as a crutch, since YOU are the product. ✨ ⚙️ AI Product Operations: The Most Exciting Career You Haven't Heard of Yet by Dan Corbin Dan's energy was contagious! I had zero idea what AI Product Ops was before this, but now I’m fired up thinking about how AI can automate the manual work so we can spend more time being strategic. It got me thinking: how and when can I apply this to UX and design workflows too? 🤖 How to Work Smarter with an AI Assistant by Tyrone Michael Avnit Ty showed us just how far we can go with LLMs and AI assistants. I was genuinely blown away when he demoed how he created “Riley” using Claude. This session gave me a list of tools to explore (hi, Claude and Perplexity 👋) and some ideas I can't wait to test out. 🧩 AI Agents: Vibe Coding Exposed Limits of their Super Powers by Drew Bixby Drew kept it real: AI is excellent for step one, but it's not magic. There's a lot of tweaking and human judgment required after that first output. I found myself nodding the whole time, especially when he talked about when not to use AI because it is just as important. 💬 Bonus insight: arguing with AI is so real. 😅 When I try to get ChatGPT to design the exact visual I want for projects, it's often me saying “no, not that” or “can you change X?” over and over — once, I asked for an eagle in a Fourth of July hat and somehow ended up with a chicken. 😂 While I would’ve loved to see more sessions focused on product design specifically, I feel like my view of the product ecosystem expanded from being a participant to a potential driver. That shift in mindset? Invaluable. And I got to learn alongside some awesome people! 🙌 Thank you, ProductCamp Austin, for such an insightful and inspiring experience. I’ll definitely be back… hopefully with more design in the mix next time? 😉 #ProductCamp #PCA33 #ProductDesign #ProductManagement #AI #UXDesign #LLMs #Unconference #LifelongLearning
