Three moments, three color directions. For Castelrotto, the grading wasn’t about uniformity, it was about building emotion in blocks, in constant dialogue with the director and DoP. The first frame is cold, almost clinical: soft directional contrasts, slightly desaturated skin, giving space to the environment and a sense of distance. A choice born on set, carried through in color without forcing it. The second frame is more intimate: warm tones, compressed gamma, softer blacks. Here, color evokes memory and the everyday, something lived-in rather than constructed, letting imperfections breathe. In the third, balance breaks: cold grading, cyan creeping into midtones, highlights dirtier. Light feels unstable, almost emotionally “off.” Three different approaches, one consistent goal: not to chase “beautiful color,” but the color that serves the moment.
