Important news for residential projects! Flanders Departement Omgeving published a new official "List of Water-Permeable Pavements" (Lijst waterdoorlatende verhardingen), and clay pavers were included! This list gives designers and contractors an overview of which materials can be used, and gives permit issuers an overview of which materials can be approved. All Vande Moortel clay pavers lend themselves to water-permeable paving thanks to their specific natural character and quality features. Combined with the correct joint filling, our clay pavers offer enough room for rainwater to infiltrate the subsoil through the traditional, natural joints between the pavers. Clay pavers are also recognised for their high load-bearing capacity, which means they hold up beautifully on driveways and paths, not just quiet garden corners. The technical side, for those who like the details: To count as water-permeable, the entire structure, top layer, foundation, and sub-foundation together, needs an infiltration capacity of at least 5.4 x 10⁻⁵ m/s. For clay pavers, that means paying attention to joint width, using a permeable filling material, and building on a foundation that can carry the load without compromising drainage.
