š£ Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is a reminder that everyone deserves to age with dignity, respect and security. Sadly, the most recent national research shows that 1 in 6 Australians aged 65 and over experience some form of elder abuse each year. In Victoria, that equates to around 160,000 older people annually. Elder abuse can take many forms, including financial, emotional and physical harm. In many cases, the abuse is carried out by someone the older person knows and trusts, often a family member. At State Trustees, protecting and advocating for vulnerable Victorians is part of our everyday work. We help safeguard our clients' financial and legal affairs, raise awareness in the community, and work alongside other organisations to help prevent elder abuse.
