St Andrew’s Hospital has strengthened its position as a leader in robotic surgery in South Australia with the arrival of the da Vinci 5 robotic-assisted surgical system. The announcement comes during St Andrew’s 90th anniversary year, as we celebrate nine decades of caring for South Australians while continuing to invest in the future of healthcare through leading-edge technology and innovation. The new system builds on more than a decade of robotic surgical innovation at St Andrew’s. Since introducing da Vinci technology in 2013, more than 9,000 patients have been treated through the hospital’s robotic surgery program. This milestone has been made possible through the generosity of donors to the St Andrew’s Hospital Foundation, with more than $1 million in philanthropic support advancing robotic surgery and investing in world-class technology for the benefit of patients across South Australia. Experienced Adelaide urologist Dr Andrew Fuller said the strength of the program lies not only in the technology, but in the depth of experience across the broader clinical team. “Strong surgical programs are built over time, and experience matters,” Dr Fuller said. “At St Andrew’s, patients are cared for by surgical and nursing teams who have supported thousands of robotic procedures. That depth of experience helps create a theatre environment focused on safe, efficient and high-quality care.” Thank you to our donors, clinicians, nursing teams and support staff, whose expertise and generosity continue to shape the future of advanced surgical care at St Andrew’s.
