How much does packaging design influence recyclability? More than you might think. A recent study by our Commissioning Manager Konstantin Schinkel, conducted as part of Sustainable Materials and Product Design (B. & M.Eng.), auch dual / Paper Technology (M.Eng.)´s program at the Munich University of Applied Sciences, revealed that packaging with a very similar appearance can achieve sorting rates that differ by a factor of five. The research, "Influencing Parameters at Drum Screens for Packaging Screening", systematically investigated how specific packaging design features affect sorting performance in recycling facilities. The findings highlight an important reality: designing packaging for recyclability alone is not enough. Effective circular economy solutions also depend on how well materials can be identified and sorted within real-world recycling processes. These insights provide valuable guidance for packaging designers, manufacturers, and recyclers working to improve material recovery and recycling rates. Congratulations to Konstantin Schinkel on this important contribution! Read the publication here: https://lnkd.in/dDYhb84p #STADLERGroup #DrumScreen #Sortingplants #WasteManagement
