David Silker had always carried one regret during his adult life: not finishing his bachelor’s degree from St. Cloud State University. But when Silker’s best friend Bill Buttweiler ‘78 was nearing the end of a cancer battle in late 2015, Buttweiler challenged him to make good on that wish. Go back and finish a degree from “our” University. A decade later, 70-year-old Silker fulfilled his end of the deal on May 8 when he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from SCSU.
