This Earth Week 🌎, we’re celebrating the communities and connections that inspire environmental stewardship, sometimes starting with something as simple as looking up. 🐦 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gDqtYTYm At St. Edward’s University, birdwatching has become more than a hobby. Through courses like Ornithology and the student-led Peter Beck Birdwatching Club, students are building leadership skills, contributing to community science, and finding meaningful ways to connect with the natural world. Iman Haddad ‘27 shared, “The biggest thing that this club has helped me with is that you don't have to be perfect to be good at leading people… to help people learn and have fun.” Inspired by the legacy of Dr. Peter Beck, students are carrying forward a passion for conservation, while also discovering the mental health benefits and sense of belonging that come with it. From tracking bird populations to creating habitats on campus, this work reflects a simple but powerful idea: caring for the environment starts with paying attention to it. 🌱
