𝗨𝗻𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗠𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵’𝘀 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 Are we alone? What makes a planet habitable? Is our Solar System unique? Astronomers search for answers by studying exoplanets, planets orbiting other stars. At SRON, we develop high contrast imaging technologies such as coronagraphs and precision optics that suppress starlight while preserving the faint signal of nearby planets. Combined with sensitive detectors, this enables us to study these worlds in greater detail. By turning scattered photons into measurable spectra, we move closer to understanding their composition and potential conditions for life.
