Dr Rajendra Prasad singh was 1969 mechanical engineering graduate of Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi, holding degrees of Bachelors & Master of Engineering, along with numerous professional honours acquired during course of his illustrious career. As rembered by our exNTPC batchmate H Srinivas Shastry “he joined NTPC during its foundational years in 1977. After starting his early career in the private sector with TISCO (Tata Steel), he moved to NTPC to manage core mechanical engineering, generation, and system operations. He left NTPC in early 1990s. This exit coincided with the period when Indian government transitioned and consolidated the massive transmission assets, lines, and managing technocrats out of NTPC to fully empower the newly formed Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID). He permanently moved his services to POWERGRID at that juncture, ultimately serving as its Director and its longest-running CMD from 1996 to 2008. Dr. R.P. Singh (FNAE) was an internationally acclaimed technocrat, an administrator of repute, author of best-seller books and white papers, and was well known for his significant contributions to the Indian Power Sector. During his 50 years long career, he served as the longest serving Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of POWER GRID CORPORATION OF INDIA LTD., from 1996 to 2008. He was largely credited with turning the company into a profit making power behemoth. He served on the Board of Directors of several private corporations – Azure Global Power, JV of Larsen & Toubro and Sargent & Lundy Canada, Techno Electric, and Vijay Electricals among others. Additionally, he served as Chairperson, BOG of Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati and NIT, Patna, and has been on the Board of NIT, Kurukshetra and Management Development institute, Gurugarm. May God rest his soul. Association of IIT BHU Alumni (AIBA) Student Alumni Interaction Cell (SAIC), IIT (BHU), Varanasi
