Our final #SPIEsmart plenary session will examine guided waves and smart structures in civil engineering. 🌊 Cliff Lissenden (Penn State University) will explore how ultrasonic guided waves, especially nonlinear effects, are transforming nondestructive evaluation, with applications ranging from fatigue and additive manufacturing to hydrogen embrittlement. Branko Glišić (Princeton University) will follow with a look at smart structures in civil engineering, highlighting innovations in strain sensing, data analysis, and deployable structures that enable more adaptive and resilient infrastructure.
