Is Europe’s lack of competitiveness really due to insufficient research, or are we focusing on the wrong part of the innovation system? New blog post on the challenges of research commercialisation 👉 https://lnkd.in/dFFHBpqr The Nordic countries 🇩🇰 🇫🇮 🇮🇸 🇳🇴 🇸🇪 consistently rank among the world’s leaders in research, innovation and education. Yet they face many of the same commercialisation challenges as the rest of Europe 🇪🇺. In the blog post, we argue that the real bottleneck often lies in the transition from research to market. Commercialisation is not simply about more R&D funding or more venture capital. It depends on an ecosystem where universities, entrepreneurs, investors, public authorities and intermediary organisations work together effectively. Drawing on a recent Nordic Innovation study conducted by Menon Economics, MDI — Part of FCG and Spatial Foresight, the blog post explores: • why excellent research does not automatically become successful businesses; • the systemic barriers that prevent ideas reaching the market; • why commercialisation ecosystems matter as much as scientific excellence; and • what this could mean for Europe’s future Competitiveness Fund and Cohesion Policy. The Nordic experience suggests an important lesson for Europe: strengthening competitiveness is not only about producing more knowledge; it is about creating the conditions that allow knowledge to generate economic value. #NordicInnovation #Commercialisation #InnovationPolicy #Competitiveness #ResearchToMarket #InnovationEcosystems #Denmark #Finland #Iceland #Norway #Sweden Erika Karttinen Jonas Erraia Juho Nyman Tommi Ranta Grétar Thór Eythórsson Luxinnovation GIE Startup Luxembourg WFG Ostbelgien VoG - Wirtschafts- & Regionalförderung Dr. Vanessa Hünnemeyer Gabriele Tatzberger
