Melbourne’s end-of-summer water storage levels were at their lowest since 2020. With dry conditions continuing, the Minister for Water has ordered 150 billion litres of desalinated water for 2026–27. The order will help keep water flowing to homes and businesses, making sure there’s enough for everyone as demand grows and conditions stay dry. While desalination plays an important role in our water future, we all have a part to play. Small everyday actions make a real difference - like keeping showers to 4 minutes, running full loads in the dishwasher and washing machine, and turning off the tap while brushing your teeth.
