The UN estimates that 80% of people displaced by climate change are women and girls.   This reflects a structural reality: women bear a disproportionate share of unpaid care work, which means they are often the last to evacuate when disaster strikes. When they do flee, they face compounded disadvantages, limited land rights, lower financial reserves, restricted mobility, and heightened exposure to gender-based violence in displacement settings.   Without gender-responsive approaches to migration, adaptation, and land rights, the majority will face this crisis with fewer resources and less protection.
