UNDP Resident Representative in Libya
We had the honor of hosting H.E. Italian Ambassador Mr. Gianluca Alberini, H.E. Consul General of Italy to Benghazi Mr. Filippo Colombo, and the Director of ASSORESTAURO, Dr. Andrea Griletto, at Al Manar Palace to experience firsthand the results of its recent rehabilitation. Walking through the palace and newly renovated Silphium Square was a powerful reminder that cultural heritage is not only about preserving the past—it is about bringing spaces back to life and reconnecting communities with their shared history and sense of place. We were also pleased to welcome representatives of ASSORESTAURO ahead of formalizing our partnership through an MoU. Our discussions highlighted how heritage restoration can revitalize public spaces, create jobs and livelihoods, and strengthen local skills. Our shared commitment with the Italian Embassy goes beyond restoration - it is an investment in the future. Many thanks to our colleagues from BDCF and the Technical Committee for their dedication and expertise in making this possible, and for their insights which enriched today’s visit. UNDP Libya together with its partners, remains committed to advancing the rehabilitation of cultural heritage across the country.
