Care Coordinator | Clinical Associate (UP)
In South Africa, Clinical Associates (ClinAs) are healthcare professionals who bridge the gap between doctors and patients, and their role in sports medicine is growing every day. They are often the first point of contact for athletes, whether on the training field, at competitions, or in clinics. Their work is hands-on: assessing injuries, providing first-line treatment, and helping athletes safely return to their sport. ClinAs don’t just treat injuries—they also help prevent them. They conduct pre-participation screenings, educate athletes on safe training habits, proper recovery, and nutrition, and guide rehabilitation programs. On game day, they can be the calm, skilled hands responding to a twisted ankle, a strained muscle, or other acute injuries, ensuring athletes get care immediately. In many community and amateur sports settings, where access to specialized sports doctors is limited, Clinical Associates become the backbone of care. They work closely with doctors, physiotherapists, and trainers to make sure athletes are not only performing at their best but also staying healthy in the long run. Their contribution is more than clinical—it’s personal. They motivate, guide, and support athletes through setbacks and recovery, giving confidence that someone knowledgeable is looking out for their health. By being accessible and involved at every level of sport, Clinical Associates make South African sports safer, smarter, and more sustainable. They are an essential part of the team, helping athletes stay in the game—both on and off the field. #SAFA #SASCOC #DSAC #HPCSA #SASMA #SABC #SASCA #SASCOS
