Most installers lose margin on the inverter, not on the panels. The customer hears "5 kW vs 10 kW" and thinks bigger is better. But the spec sheet tells a different story. The right hybrid inverter, sized for the actual load and future battery plans, protects the project from warranty claims, change requests, and missed upsells. Where projects go wrong: → Single-phase inverter on a house that will get a heat pump or EV charger next year. Re-quote, re-permit, unhappy client. → String inverter picked on price, then the roof turns out to have two orientations and shading. Yield drops 8–15%, the customer blames the installer. → On-grid inverter sold today, battery requested next year. Full replacement instead of a simple add-on. The hybrid premium isn't a cost. It's the option to sell more to the same customer later. We wrote an article on what actually drives inverter pricing, kW class, topology (string, hybrid, micro), brand tier, and monitoring. https://hubs.li/Q04dKHsS0
