πŸ… The William Farr Medal was inaugurated in 2006. It recognises medical practitioners who have made a particularly significant contribution to the management of the care of the elderly as part of their clinical or research work in the United Kingdom. πŸŽ‰ The 2026 Farr Medal is presented to Prof Veeru Kasivisvanathan in recognition of his contributions to improving the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. Prof Veeru Kasivisvanathan is a world-leading Professor of Urology and Consultant Urological Surgeon. He leads several research groups producing world-class practice-changing research, improving the quality of life of patients and introducing new treatments to clinical practice. His work at UCL has led to the biggest changes in prostate cancer care in the last 30 years introducing MRI into the diagnostic pathway. As a result of his work, approximately 4 million men now have a prostate MRI globally and one to two million avoid an unnecessary biopsy who previously would have been biopsied. He has recently provided evidence for streamlined 15-minute MRI scans, which have doubled the global capacity for MRI overnight. These innovations lead to better, more accurate prostate cancer diagnosis. #GalenAwards2026 #WilliamFarrMedal2026 #SocietyOfApothecaries #Awards #AwardWinner #InspiringLeaders #Healthcare #PublicHealth The Royal College of Surgeons of England
