๐ The Galen Medal in Therapeutics is presented by the Society of Apothecaries annually and is its most prestigious honour. It has been presented since 1926. The Medal is awarded for important services or contributions in the broad field of therapeutics. This can include treatments in clinical medicine or other clinically related areas, therapeutic aspects of public health, and science leading to such treatments. ๐ The 2026 Galen Medal is presented to Prof Sir Stephen Jackson FRS FMedSci in recognition of his transformational contribution to mechanisms of DNA repair and development of olaparib. Prof Sir Stephen (Steve) Jackson is the University of Cambridge Frederick James Quick Professor of Biology and Senior Group Leader at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute. Steveโs research has revealed how cells respond to and repair DNA damage and helped define how DNA-repair dysfunction leads to various diseases. He has also founded several biotech companies. Most notably, Steve founded and led KuDOS Pharmaceuticals, which developed the โPARP-inhibitorโ drug, olaparib. Marketed worldwide for certain ovarian, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers, olaparib is the first medicine of its kind โ exploiting genetic DNA-repair weaknesses to kill cancer cells, but not normal cells of the patient. #GalenAwards2026 #SocietyOfApothecaries #Awards #AwardWinner #InspiringLeaders #Healthcare #PublicHealth
