Together with Tata Steel, we will build the world's first EASyMelt plant — and fundamentally change how steel is made. Blast furnaces produce most of the world's steel. They also produce massive CO₂ emissions. For decades the question has been: Can we decarbonize them — without scrapping them entirely? Our answer: Yes. Our Paul Wurth S.A. EASyMelt technology (Electrically-Assisted Syngas Smelter) transforms an existing blast furnace into a low-carbon ironmaking reactor: ➡️ Replaces most of the coke with syngas as the reducing agent ➡️ Plasma torches superheat the syngas using electricity ➡️ Works with multiple energy sources — natural gas, hydrogen, ammonia, electricity ➡️ Still runs on conventional iron ore — no scarce high-grade pellets needed 🎯 The target: More than 50% CO₂ reduction — with a pathway to climate neutrality. And Tata Steel's 'E' Blast Furnace in Jamshedpur will be the first plant in the world to prove it. Because the reality is: Not every steelmaker can build a greenfield plant from scratch.
