Bangladesh Railway has taken the next step in modernising the nation’s transport network with the signing of a consulting services contract for the Dual Gauge Double Line Between Joydebpur-Ishurdi Section Project. The 174km corridor will cut travel times by nearly three hours, ease congestion, and introduce Bangladesh’s first broad-gauge container trains. It will also boost capacity on a line currently carrying 36-38 trains a day, well above its designed limit of 25. SMEC is proud to contribute our expertise as part of a Joint Venture led by Oriental Consultants Global, alongside CHODAI, Japan International Consultants for Transportation (JIC), DDC, and ACE Consultants Ltd. Together we will support the design, supervision, and implementation of 162km of dual gauge double track that strengthens connectivity between Dhaka and western Bangladesh.
