Public procurement is a powerful lever for reaching climate goals — yet the system still defaults to lowest price over long-term value. Our new report, Procurement for Impact, looks at how that's starting to change. One example is the UK's Lower Thames Crossing, where our team is delivering part of the project. Sustainability targets are legally embedded in the contract — contractors had to show exactly how they'd cut whole-life carbon by 50% before being awarded the work. The report sets out five recommendations for using procurement as a strategic tool — building on points Magnus Persson, CEO of Skanska Sweden, also made in an earlier episode of our Shaping Sustainable Places podcast.
