🏆Tomorrow evening during the ALA's Annual Conference's Noche de Cuentos, SJSU King Library's Librarian and Director of the Africana, Asian American, Chicano and Native American Studies Center Kathryn Blackmer Reyes will be awarded the REFORMA 2025-26 Elizabeth Martinez Lifetime Achievement Award. 🏆 💫The Elizabeth Martinez Lifetime Achievement Award (LAA) recognizes those who have achieved excellence in librarianship over an extended (over 20 years) period of service and who have made significant and lasting contributions to REFORMA, as well as to the Latino/x/é and the Spanish-speaking communities. The recipient will be honored at American Library Association Annual 2026 in Chicago. 📚 🤩 In her career as a librarian she has hosted over 300+ race/ethnic exhibits and programs benefiting not only academic life but also the surrounding communities in the areas. In 2023, Kathryn was one of 10 national recipients of the American Library Association's "I Love My Librarian." In 2022, Kathryn also received grants from the Social Science Research Council and the National Endowment of the Humanities and a Santa Clara County Historical grant for her work and partnership reflecting the diverse communities of Santa Clara County and San José communities. 😍 🎙️"Kathryn has served the university, the students, and the community in many ways including as members of various committees focusing on equity, diversity and inclusion.
