A solar roof glass for a circular electric vehicle. We are building it.   Şişecam is part of the ZEvRA consortium — a Horizon Europe-funded project developing the next generation of circular, low-carbon electric vehicles. Our contribution sits where our expertise is deepest: the glass.   Specifically, we are developing a solar roof glass that does two things simultaneously.   It generates electricity. The roof is engineered to harvest solar energy and feed the vehicle’s battery system directly — extending range, reducing grid draw, and making the vehicle’s own surface productive in a way that conventional glass roofs are not.   It lowers lifecycle carbon. Through the materials used, the manufacturing approach applied, and the circular design principles built into the project, the roof is engineered to reduce the vehicle’s embedded carbon footprint across its full lifecycle — not only in operation.   This is the direction glass is heading in automotive. Not a passive surface.
