We are proud to share that our colleague Adrià Plazas Vidal has successfully defended his Industrial PhD thesis, "Assessing the Impact of Public Funding on Research Institutions" 🎓. We are especially delighted that the thesis has been awarded the Cum Laude distinction. The examination committee recognised its contribution to understanding, from a multidimensional perspective, how public funding schemes shape the research portfolios of institutions. 🚀 This marks a special milestone for SIRIS Academic: it is the first Industrial PhD developed within our organisation, co-funded by the Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI), in collaboration with Universitat Rovira i Virgili. The thesis was supervised by Marta Sales Pardo, Roger Guimerà, and Solange Chavel at SIRIS. 🤝 This achievement reflects not only Adrià's dedication and outstanding work, but also the collaborative and enriching research environment that we strive to build at SIRIS Academic. 📚 Part of this research has already been published in two recent articles: Evolution of research portfolios of universities and heterogeneity in the returns to research specialization A global map of science according to a topic model of EU grants 💡 This accomplishment also highlights the value of Industrial PhDs as a powerful way to bridge rigorous academic research with applied experimentation and real-world impact. 👏 Congratulations, Adrià, and thanks to everyone who contributed to this journey!
