The 2026 H2science conference brought the hydrogen research community back to Trondheim last week, with the message one of optimism and resilience. Over 250 attendees were at Gløshaugen for the opening day, with the conference featuring 70+ sessions spanning the full hydrogen value chain. Conference chair and FME HYDROGENi centre director Nils Røkke set the tone in his opening plenary, acknowledging a turbulent period for the hydrogen sector while expressing renewed confidence: "It's a bumpy road but hydrogen is no stranger to bumpy roads... Hydrogen is one of the few technological areas where we still have a strong position, and this is due to persistence. It's about education, research and building a thriving ecosystem." This year's edition of the conference was extra special, running jointly with the EPHyC - European PhD Hydrogen Conference (EPHyC), and bringing together established researchers and the next generation of hydrogen scientists from across Europe right here in Trondheim.
