How we frame ageing shapes how each generation relates to the other. In a Straits Times commentary, Whitney Zhang, Senior Lecturer of Strategic Management from the SMU Lee Kong Chian School of Business, argues that Singapore needs to move beyond viewing ageing primarily through the lens of burden, service and decline. As Singapore approaches super-aged status, the challenge is not only to build better systems of care, but to reshape the social narrative around later life. Older adults are not merely beneficiaries of support; they are contributors, collaborators and carriers of wisdom, experience and capability. For younger generations, this shift matters. When ageing is presented only as a problem to be solved, it risks creating distance, fatigue and anxiety. A more meaningful approach calls for schools, businesses and communities to move from doing things for seniors to designing solutions with them. Explore why Singapore’s ageing future should be seen not as a burden, but as a vibrant chapter of life shaped through collaboration: https://sgsmu.com/4oYTB8p #SGSMU #SGSMULKCSB #ThoughtLeadership #AgeingSociety #IntergenerationalCollaboration #SocialImpact #MeaningfulImpact
