Singapore’s healthcare system is approaching a turning point. At the recent Healthcare Asia Summit, A/Prof Hiang Khoon Tan, CEO of SGH, shared how a shrinking workforce and rapidly ageing population, are pushing healthcare to rethink its model. Rather than relying solely on hospital beds, SGH is moving towards a “Hospital Without Walls” approach under Singapore’s capitation-based funding framework. The focus shifts from treating illness to sustaining health across the population. This includes initiatives such as: • Hospital-at-Home, which saved over 8,700 bed days • Pensive AI, reducing dementia screening time from 55 minutes to 10 • TriGen, where intergenerational engagement helped reduce patient length of stay by 2.87 days These efforts show how policy alignment, technology, and social innovation can work together to reshape healthcare delivery.
