Life Cycle Assessment and Chemical Engineering ⚗️🃏📊

🎭🧐 What kind of #theater show is this that we are currently observing? CEOs of large corporations are calling for the abolition of the Emission Trading System (#ETS). While at the same time, they claim that climate protection is so important to them. 👨‍🦯‍➡️ Even a blind man with a walking stick can see that something is not right here. Besides, I can't stand it when someone treats their audience like they're stupid. 🌡️ Pricing CO₂ emissions is the most effective weapon in the fight against rising global temperatures. Since money is the only language that business leaders understand. The only alternative would be laws and penalties, but they don't want that either. 📈 Yes, this initially makes fossil fuels more expensive. But that is precisely the aim of the whole thing. This enables the transition to renewable energy and raw materials. Only then can we become independent of fossil fuel imports, which will become even more expensive in the future. ❗ Calling for the abolition of this instrument is clear evidence that one is not interested in the consequences of climate change and that short-term profits are more important. Therefore, it is not surprising that the demands come primarily from old, white men who have already lived most of their lives. 💁‍♂️ That sounds like the same old boring criticism of #capitalism from the left, but I can't think of anything else to say. Apparently, companies are doing nothing more than ‘virtue signaling’. Outwardly, they want to build a good image at as little cost as possible. 🍒 The whole thing is garnished with assertions about how important honest debate is. Part of the truth is that we must prepare ourselves for massive climate change, with all the consequences that this will have for us. The costs are merely being shifted into the future. 💸 The Umweltbundesamt - German Environment Agency estimates the costs at around €880 per tonne of CO₂. This also allows us to calculate the damage that these gentlemen are causing here with their companies. 🌊 🔭 I am 33 years old and still have a lot to experience in this regard. 👏 Therefore I would like to thank everyone who never tires of emphasizing how much #responsibility they bear, but who fail to live up to it when it matters: - Wolfgang Große Entrup (Verband der Chemischen Industrie e.V. (VCI)), - Christian Kullmann (Evonik), - Jim Ratcliffe (INEOS), - Markus Kamieth (BASF), - Christian Hartel (WACKER), - Michael Vassiliadis (Industriegewerkschaft IGBCE) - ... If we took the issue seriously, we would tax fossil fuels and use the revenue to promote renewable alternatives. But that's not what this is about... Nach uns die Sintflut! #YOLO 🤘
