Proud to share the publication of the first paper from my PhD, “Trends and risk factors of stroke and mortality after transcatheter aortic valve implantation in the Netherlands”, in Open Heart (Cardiology at BMJ). Using nationwide data from the Nederlandse Hart Registratie (NHR), we analyzed all 23,593 TAVI procedures performed in the Netherlands between 2013 and 2023. Our study identified female sex, peripheral artery disease, non-transfemoral access, and balloon postdilation as independent risk factors for in-hospital stroke. Moreover, in-hospital stroke was associated with an over eightfold increase in 30-day mortality.
