Partner - Longton Blackwell

My why. I started my journey in law one month before my daughter Marlee was born. On a Friday when Marlee was 6 weeks old we took her to the hospital where the doctors told us she had meningitis. That following Monday I had my first law school final exam. I studied that weekend in the hospital not leaving Marlee’s side and I took that exam and the next one and the one after that. Marlee pulled through after 2 weeks in hospital and I received a distinction average in my first semester. Fast forward 2 years and Marlee was diagnosed with Global Developmental Delay and Autism. Like a little trooper she attended every speech therapy session, every occupational therapy session, every doctors appointment, always her happy self. She taught me resilience so I persisted. On 20 April 2023 I was tapped on the shoulder and told that I had been promoted to the position of Partner at Longton Legal. The firm I had started with, the firm I stuck with and more importantly the firm that stuck with me. I am immeasurably proud and grateful. It takes a village to raise a child and it takes a community to develop a good legal practitioner. I am so incredibly lucky that I just happened to land where I did. To my colleagues, thank you. To all legal practitioners I have had the fortune of dealing with, thank you. To all my clients, thank you. To Longton Legal, THANK YOU. And finally to my Marlee, my son Rhylee, my eldest daughter Marissa and my wife Maricar, we did it!
