I'm not saying that England are going to win the World Cup, nor that I found last night's game a comfortable watch. But I did find Thomas Tuchel's faith in his approach and his view on the game refreshing, because he'd not lost sight of the most important thing - England won, in regular time, after coming back from a goal down. No, it wasn't pretty, but most cup runs aren't. And football is unpredictable and anything can happen - which is what makes the game so great in the first place. Tuchel knows this, but I think England fans forget, because they're so scarred by previous failures that they think history is about to repeat itself - again. We don't have to think like that. We can remind ourselves that success isn't linear and that Tuchel, while not perfect, is right. England won because they didn't give up, even when things weren't going their way - which, while it might not work against the big teams, deserves credit, rather than another round of despair.
