Silicon Austria Labs and Johannes Kepler Universität Linz were pleased to contribute to the RTR event "Alte Stärken – neue Mächte: Infrastrukturen der Zukunft" at the Urania in Vienna, bringing together leading experts from research, industry, media, and technology to discuss the ongoing transformation of Europe's digital infrastructure landscape. Our colleague Hans-Peter Bernhard delivered the opening keynote, focusing on the growing importance of private campus networks, private data, and trusted digital services as key building blocks for future digital industrial ecosystems. The keynote showcased how secure and sovereign communication infrastructures can support industrial innovation, critical services, and digital resilience, complemented by presentations of ongoing research and innovation projects that demonstrate these concepts in real-world environments. The second keynote by Stefan Erschwendner (Frontira) provided perspectives on actual and future developments and emerging agentic AI stimulating discussions on how AI driven digital transformation is reshaping markets, services, and problem solving. The subsequent panel discussion highlighted the multifaceted challenges and opportunities facing Europe's digital future. Experts discussed the growing influence of platform economies, the shift toward increasingly personalized digital services, and the strategic importance of technological sovereignty. Perspectives from media organizations, technology providers, funding institutions, and broadcasting operators provided valuable insights into how infrastructure, regulation, and technology are evolving together. Beyond the excellent presentations and discussions, the event offered a great opportunity for networking and exchange among experts from academia, industry, media organizations, regulatory bodies, and public institutions. These interactions are essential for fostering collaboration, building new partnerships, and jointly addressing the challenges of Europe's digital transformation.
