The Artemis II mission represents a massive shift in space exploration. 🌕 While the Apollo missions were about the "giant leap," Artemis is about the long-term presence. Establishing a base at the lunar south pole presents a unique engineering "thermal problem." With extreme temperature fluctuations and long lunar nights, predicting structural integrity and power availability is critical. Using the capabilities of Simcenter 3D Space Systems Thermal simulation, our engineers were able to simulate a thermal map of the moon’s surface using publicly available data from NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) mission, accounting for local terrain and subsurface heating, and the thermal gradient of the lunar day at the south pole. Space exploration is wired into our DNA, but it's simulation technology that makes it safe. We’re not just looking at the horizon; we’re building the tools to live beyond it. More info 🔗⬇️
