Working in a team teaches you how to live together. Mario Veluti, who has been with SICIM for twenty-five years, reminds us of this. Over the course of his career, Mario has held various roles: Project Manager, Construction Manager, Mechanical Superintendent, and Construction Superintendent working on projects in different parts of the world, from Italy to Congo, from Cameroon to Türkiye, from Iraq to Canada. And he can say it with confidence: "on these job sites, a very large number of people work together [...] so you learn how to live and work together", an attitude that should "be developed for normal life, everyday life too." We met him on the Sestino–Minerbio Pipeline Replacement Project, Lot 3 Saraceno–Cesena, carried out on behalf of SNAM, where Mario works as Drilling Superintendent. He coordinates two crews involved in HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) activities, a trenchless technology that, by taking advantage of the pipe’s flexibility, enables the installation of pipelines over long distances. In this interview, Mario explains what makes him feel fulfilled in his role, giving us a glimpse of both the opportunities and the challenges that come with this job. Above all, he reminds us of an important truth: a construction site is not only a place where infrastructure is built, but also a place where people grow.
