I'm honoured to have won 1st place at the International Innovation in Medical Education Conference. πŸ† Millions of future doctors are entering a healthcare system in which AI will play a central role. AI scribes are already being used to document clinical consultations in real time, often ahead of robust evaluation. While these tools offer clear benefits, they also raise important questions for medical education. Because documentation isn't just paperwork. It's clinical reasoning made visible. When AI writes the note, who's doing the thinking? Who's doing the learning? And how often is AI getting it right? In my latest project, across multiple AI models, nearly half of all AI-generated clinical notes contained errors. Notably, 86% of these were omission errors, where key clinical information was left out. But here's the paradox. The overall quality of AI-generated documentation was high, with quality index scores exceeding 80%. In other words, high-quality writing can mask factual inaccuracies. The reality is that trainees are entering a healthcare system that will be shaped and reshaped by AI, whether medical schools are ready or not. Medical education systems must adapt. AI literacy can no longer be taught as an optional module or an elective. It should now be taught as a core patient safety skill. Because AI can write a beautiful yet inaccurate note. But the responsibility for what it says will remain with the doctor. And that responsibility cannot be automated. I’m honoured to have received 1st prize for my oral presentation at the International Innovation in Medical Education Conference 2026. I’m incredibly grateful to my supervisor and everyone who supported me along the way, especially my dad, Sridhar Karlapudi, who came to watch me present and has given me countless valuable insights into AI. My first international oral presentation, and a milestone I’m very grateful for! #MedicalEducation #ArtificialIntelligence #PatientSafety #HealthcareInnovation #MedSchool #Research King's College London King's Health Partners King's Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust
