What makes someone stop, look around, and stay longer in a store? This was one of the many questions that came to mind during our visit to Bongénie in Zurich, Switzerland. Walking through the store, I realized that retail design is so much more than displaying products beautifully. Every detail from the store layout and visual merchandising to the choice of materials, lighting, and customer flow is carefully considered to create an experience that feels effortless and memorable. One of my biggest takeaways was understanding how luxury retail relies on storytelling. The way products are presented, the atmosphere that is created, and the consistency of the brand experience all work together to communicate a brand's identity without saying a single word. As a design student, it was inspiring to see how design influences not only aesthetics but also customer behaviour, emotions, and decision-making. A sincere thank you to Nicolas Délèze for guiding us through the store and sharing valuable insights into the world of luxury retail. Your explanations helped us look beyond the surface and understand the thought process behind creating meaningful retail experiences. Experiences like these remind me that some of the best design lessons happen when we step outside the classroom and observe how design works in the real world. #DesignStudent #RetailDesign #VisualMerchandising #LuxuryRetail #StoreDesign #bongenie
