Can pilotage be carried out safely and effectively without the pilot physically on board? ⚓🔍 A new anthropological study from Syddansk Universitet - University of Southern Denmark, conducted as part of ShippingLab's #SLGREEN project, provides a practice-based insight into how remote pilotage affects collaboration, decision-making and the organisation of pilotage services. Based on observations both on board vessels and in DanPilot - Danish State Pilotage's control centres, the study shows how remote pilotage changes working practices in reality – and points to significant potential for safety, efficiency and future maritime operations. 🌊 The findings suggest that remote pilotage can strengthen collaboration between pilots and bridge crews while supporting safe and efficient navigation.
