#PIANC2024 – Applying Performance Data Understanding 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 In the previous posts we introduced how performance data is structured under the PIANC Fender Design Guidelines 2024 (WG211) and how 𝗣𝗿𝗲-𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮 support early-stage evaluation. When project conditions require a more detailed assessment, designers move to 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲. ➡️ 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, determined under standardized constant-velocity (CV) conditions at low compression speed. It serves as the 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 and the starting point for project-specific calculations. 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻-𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲. ➡️ Using Base Performance directly for fender selection, without applying correction factors, can lead to significant deviations — and in some cases, underestimated reaction forces in the range of 𝟮𝟬–𝟯𝟬%. In the video below, Dominique Polte (𝗣𝗜𝗔𝗡𝗖 𝗪𝗚𝟮𝟭𝟭 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿) explains how Base Performance should be interpreted and applied within the PIANC 2024 design methodology. #WG211 #MarineIndustry #FenderDesign
