What happens in Pakistan’s high mountains does not remain in the mountains. Declining seasonal snow, accelerating glacier change, and the expansion of glacial lakes have far-reaching implications for downstream communities, infrastructure, water security, and disaster risk. In this BBC Urdu report by Mohammad Zubair khan, I discuss what these changes across the Hindu Kush, Karakoram, and Himalaya mean for Pakistan, and why sustained monitoring, effective early warning systems, community preparedness, and timely evacuation are essential.
