A couple of weeks back we hopped across to UREST, a hotel for women in Mumbai. It’s a small, cute hotel that can house 26 guests and is owned and run by a team of women (with one lone man). “Most of our guests book for long term stays. Internships, projects, or even when they are exploring the city for a job”, says Michelle, co director in the hotel. Maya, her 80 year old mom also a co director, comes to the hotel everyday and says it keeps her busy and motivated. “It gives me a reason to dress up and show up. The garden is totally my baby.” UREST is always full to capacity inspite of never having advertised. Mumbai is a safe city yet a space like this gives women complete mental freedom.
